Body piercing is an art and is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of body. Many people wear different jewels in pierced parts of body. Body piercing is a form of body modification. The body art has become very popular from last few years. It is very hard to see a person without either piercing or having tattoo on the body whenever you visit market or watch any program on TV.

Body piercing is most popular in United States America. This trend started in 1990s and since then, going steadily. According to 2003 poll, 16% of American or about 48 millions of people have at least one piercing or tattoo on their body. Many people used to pierce their ears, lips, nostrils, eyebrows, belly buttons, tongues, or even cheeks. Even some people bear multiple piercing.

From last 30 years, body modifications have been inching their into main stream society. Many different cultures have pierced their body for centuries. Even in history books it is mentioned that Egyptians, Greeks and Romans did body art either, piercing or tattooing.

Many people thought body piercing look cool. A body piercing is a piercing or puncture made in the body with the help of needle. Ears, belly buttons and nose are most popular pierced body parts. If a person performing piercing provides a safe, clean and professional environment.

Process of body Piercing:

– First, wash the area that you want to pierce with a germicidal soap as it is best way to kill the bacteria and microorganisms.
– Puncture the skin with sharp and clean needle.
– A jewelry piece, which has already been sterilized, is attached to the area.
– The person doing piercing should wear fresh disposable gloves.
– The person performing the piercing disposes of the needle in a special container so that there is no risk of the needle or blood touching someone else.
– The pierced area is then cleaned.
– According to the comfort, jewelry piece added to pierced area.
– Make sure you are up to date with immunizations like hepatitis and tetanus.

There are many problems associated with the body piercing. The most common risks are infections, allergic reactions, bleeding, damaged teeth and nerves. Infections may be caused by hepatitis, HIV, tetanus, bacteria and yeast. If the a person performing piercing washes hands and uses gloves and sterile equipments then the chances of developing complicatons can be decreased.
